Honey BBQ Wings
I’m a HUGE fan of wings, to the point that I took a trip to Buffalo, NY and to head to the Anchor Bar – the supposed birthplace of Buffalo Wings. OK…so I was really just on a business trip. But let’s just say I felt most productive during my 3 trips to the Anchor Bar (over the course of 4 days).
Anyways, while Buffalo style is my favorite variety of wing, during the warmer summer months, I like to change it up and make use of the grill for my favorite appetizer. I figure I’m in front of it cooking anyways, why not throw on some wings?
Plus, standing in front of the grille while enjoying a glass of The Wife’s Away Tea and chowing down on some wings is a great way to celebrate the 4th of July!
Unlike my drink recipes, I will give exact measurements for my Honey BBQ Wings recipe (but feel free to adjust to your taste).
- 12 oz. Root Beer
- 1 cup Ketchup
- ½ cup Honey
- ¼ cup Vegetable Oil
- 2 tbsp White Vinegar
- 1 tsp Black Pepper
- ½ tsp Minced Garlic
- ½ tsp Liquid Smoke
- ½ Ground Ginger
- ½ tsp Ground Nutmeg
- 2 lbs Chicken Wings
Mix all ingredients (except the wings) in a large bowl and stir thoroughly. Add wings, cover and marinate in the refrigerator. The longer the better.
Grill wings for about 20 to 25 minutes over a medium heat or until juices run clear when pierced with fork and meat richest internal temperature of 180 degrees. Turn and baste with sauce marinade occasionally.
Remove wings from the grill. While wings are cooling, take the remaining marinade and boil for about 10 minutes in medium saucepan to serve as a dipping sauce on the side.
My kids love this. Enjoy and have a Happy Independence Day!
